The Shelter of Hope provides 10 fully-furnished emergency and transitional housing units, homeless prevention services and case management to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Boyd, Carter and Greenup County, Kentucky.

Shelter of Hope is a 501-c-3 non-profit, emergency and transitional shelter established in 1988 in response to the rising need for assistance among homeless families in BOYD, CARTER AND GREENUP COUNTIES IN Kentucky.

Qualification Process

All applicants for shelter or housing assistance must go to CAReS Referral agency (see contact information below) to be considered.   If qualified, applicants will be given a referral and an appointment will be made with the Shelter of Hope

  1. Individuals and families must be residents of Boyd, Carter or Greenup County, Kentucky

  2. Photo I.D. for all family members age 18 and older

  3. Social security cards for all members of the household

  4. Birth certificates for all members of the household

  5. Proof of any income and/or public assistance

  6. Proof of homelessness or imminent risk of becoming homeless

  7. Background check

  8. No registered sex offenders are permitted

All qualifying applicants will be placed on the Shelter of Hope's waiting list until a unit becomes available.  Priority will be given to those in greatest need.  Provisions will be made without discrimination because of sex, race, color, national origin, sexual orientation or religion.

Our main goal is to help individuals and families get into more permanent and affordable housing.
